COMMUNITY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE CELEBRATES 25th ANNIVERSARY

(Southfield, MI)  Southeast Michigan’s largest and longest operational private, not-for-profit provider of Emergency Medical Services, Community EMS, is sponsoring an event for employees and their families in celebration of twenty-five years of service to the metro Detroit area.

Established in 1982, Community EMS began with twenty-five employees and four ambulances.   At present, there are more than 1000 employees among its organizations and seven different fleets of emergency and non-emergency vehicles that include standard ambulances, mobile intensive care units, bariatric transport vehicles and lab courier cars.  In addition to an exponential increase in size and services offered, Community EMS has grown in structure, opening an EMS training school and becoming a partner to six joint ventures in three states.

Located at 25400 West Eight Mile Road, the company now occupies its fourth change of location due to the tremendous growth over the years.  This Southfield location, which accepts calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, has given rise to a number of opportunities to better serve the area and its surrounding communities.  For instance, expansion afforded Community EMS the ability to house an EMS billing center as well as a fleet maintenance facility that services both its own vehicles and those of the public at large by appointment.  Other technological advancements include the implementation of electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) which allows EMS providers to use handheld devices to accurately and securely record patient data at the scene of the emergency.

Over the past twenty-five years, Community EMS has developed a number of mutually rewarding relationships with other health care providers and area businesses.  In addition to having mutual-aid agreements with many neighboring communities and organizations, Community EMS provides standby coverage for the Palace of Auburn Hills and the DTE Energy Music Theater as well as for other local events as requested.  Community EMS has provided staff and vehicles for such national disasters as Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, and has engaged in county wide emergency preparedness plans and agreements.

The Executive Management Team of Community EMS would like to take this opportunity to invite the local media to share in our rich history of service excellence with our staff and families from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 18 at our Southfield headquarters.  Scheduled events include live music by A Perfect Fourth, Mason-sponsored child identification kits, gourmet grill catered by Enzo’s, snow cones and popcorn, face painting, caricatures, games and obstacle course, children’s photographs with emergency vehicles, door prizes, a raffle, and an appearance by Jack the EMS rescue and therapy dog.
